After quite possibly the worst week of his life, offensive lineman La’el Collins has settled on a new home – opting to sign with the Dallas Cowboys. The Collins signing ends week-long speculation as to the fate of the player who was once projected to be a first round draft pick.
With the signing of Collins, the Dallas offensive line, which was already one of the best in the game, just became even better. Collins will likely slot in at guard and help provide Tony Romo with even more time in the pocket. For a team on the cusp of something special, the acquisition of Collins is huge.
Not to be missed, the Cowboys essentially drafted three players with first round talent over the past seven days – Collins (OL, UDFA), Randy Gregory (DE, second round) and Byron Jones (CB, first round). While Jones is known to be exceptional on and off the field, Gregory and Collins fell out of the first round due to questions that surrounded them.
Regardless, the signing by the Cowboys is a strong one. Adding La’el Collins to their stable of offensive lineman will do wonders for the 2015 season and beyond. While it might be seen as a risk to some, a three-year deal worth just over $1 million is an absolute steal for Jerry Jones and the rest of the inhabitants of Jerry’s World.
