NFL Week 1: What to Watch For

At last, Week 1 of the NFL Season is upon us! No more bored Sundays filled with bowling and pool on ESPN, we finally get FOOTBALL! As Week 1 kicks off today, here are some of the key things to look out for this week.

Can the Patriots Defense Repeat?

In the playoffs last year, the New England Patriots really showed up to play. Their defense especially, played each game to perfection. But after this offseason, the Patriots lost three key performers on the defensive side of the ball. Brandon Browner, Darrelle Revis and Vince Wilfork all found new homes, so can the current defense mirror the prior success? Malcolm Butler and Logan Ryan take over the starting cornerback duties, while Alan Branch should be the full-time replacement for Wilfork. The Pittsburgh Steelers should be a great Week 1 test, so the Patriots will definitely have their hands full. If the secondary can slow down Antonio Brown and Big Ben, things may be looking up for this Patriots defense.

Success for the Texans?

Coming into this season, the Houston Texans are looking like a one trick pony. With Brian Hoyer being named their starting quarterback and losing star running back Arian Foster to injury; the Texans are really going to have to rely on their defense this season. The Texans are getting a tough opponent to start the season in the Kansas City Chiefs, so they will provide a great test for their defense. If the Texans can get a Week 1 victory and make some strides on offense, we could be looking at an underdog in the AFC South.

Do we buy the Vikings Hype?

After a much praised rookie season from quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, the Minnesota Vikings look to build off of that and continue their recent success. Getting back star running back Adrian Peterson from suspension is definitely the key to the offseason, but what are we expecting from the Vikings in 2015? The Vikings had a solid offseason, especially in the first two rounds of the draft. Trae Waynes and Eric Kendricks were great picks of their defense, in the present and future. The San Francisco 49ers will be a great test for this young team, as the 49ers are struggling as well. If the Vikings can go into San Francisco and get a big win on Monday Night, this could be a promising season for this team.
