The Roundball: All-Star Spectacular

With NBA all-star weekend upon us myself, and my colleague Jon Mitchell, decided that the best of the best in fantasy basketball needed some representation, so the idea for the first known fantasy basketball All-Star game was hatched. We took the top-24 players in the Yahoo 9-cat rankings up to this point in the season and in a snake style draft, formed two 13 player teams with the last spot being a wildcard pick that could be used for any player regardless of rank. Unlike a normal matchup, we will disregard position as well as starting lineup/bench spots and simply compile the stats of all players on both teams throughout the next week  to determine the winner. I wound up with the first pick after a grueling best of three rock paper scissors showdown. The following rosters are listed in the order in which they were picked, so without further ado here are your 2014-2015 Roundball Fantasy All-Stars:

Team Logan

  1. Stephen Curry
  2. LeBron James
  3. James Harden
  4. Marc Gasol
  5. DeMarcus Cousins
  6. Damian Lillard
  7. John Wall
  8. Nikola Vucevic
  9. Paul Millsap
  10. Kyle Lowry
  11. Kyrie Irving
  12. Danny Green
  13. DeAndre Jordan

Team Jon

  1. Anthony Davis
  2. Kevin Durant
  3. Russell Westbrook
  4. Chris Paul
  5. LaMarcus Aldridge
  6. Pau Gasol
  7. Klay Thompson
  8. Kawhi Leonard
  9. Al Horford
  10. Draymond Green
  11. Jeff Teague
  12. Jimmy Butler
  13. Gordon Hayward

Obviously, most of theses picks do not need to be explained. I picked DeAndre for my wildcard spot because he has been on an absolute tear in his last 5 games posting 14/15/1/1.5 to go with 67% percent from the floor. With Blake Griffin set to miss some time, Jordan is as hot as anybody. Jons’ pick of Gordon Hayward is a no brainer once you consider his 24/4/3 averages the week before the All-Star game and a 19/4/5 average on the season thus far. The results of this matchup will be posted a week from tomorrow so make sure to check back and see which team prevailed in this Goliath showdown. Stay tuned  for more from The Roundball very soon and as always please drop any basketball questions, fantasy or otherwise, here at the SportsGrumble mailbag. Congrats to Stephen Curry, Zach LaVine, Andrew Wiggins, Patrick Beverly,Team Bosh and the now 4-time celebrity MVP Kevin Hart for stepping up in their respective events this weekend. Remember to tune  into the main event tomorrow night at 8:30 on TNT. Happy hoops everyone.
