Just when Todd Gurley was about to take over the lead for the Heisman Trophy race, his world has come crashing down. The star Georgia Bulldogs running back was suspended due to an alleged violation of NCCA rules – the investigation is ongoing.
“I’m obviously very disappointed,” said Georgia head coach Mark Richt. “The important thing for our team is to turn all our attention toward preparation for Missouri.”
At the time of his suspension, Gurley was leading the SEC in rushing with 773 yards and 8 touchdown. Not only is Gurley’s suspension harmful for his Heisman chances, but it also puts the Bulldogs far behind the eight ball as they try to move up from 13th in the AP poll. Without Gurley, the SEC once again becomes wide open and fair game.
