Twins Fire Ron Gardenhire

Reports are beginning to surface from Minnesota that the Twins have fired manager Ron Gardenhire after 13 years as the team’s manager (1068-1039 record).

This news comes on the heals of the Twins once again finishing last in the AL Central division with a record of 70-92. Gardenhire’s Twins have had four consecutive losing seasons, finishing last in their division three of the four years (finishing 4th in 2013). The team’s 70 wins were the most since 2010 when the team won the AL Central.

The firing of Gardenhire was undoubtedly a tough one for the Pohland family who has owned the team since 1984 (Carl was the owner until his death in 2009, his son Jim currently owns the team). There is no word yet on the status of general manager Terry Ryan, though he is expected to remain as the team GM.
