World Series Over After Two Games?

You read it right and you read it here first. The next time the Royals are in Kansas City they will have some new hardware that eluded them last year. The Mets should get a victory in New York, but this series is as good as over.
Game 1 started with Alcides Escobar’s inside the park homerun, despite the unusual start the Mets were able to overcome it, leading 4-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth.

In my mind this series was over in home half of the ninth, when Alex Gordon tied up the game with his solo shot of Jeurys Familia. When Gordon’s ball sailed over the center field wall the Mets were just two outs away from stealing Game 1 on the road. A huge game that slipped through their fingers and maybe their best shot to steal a game in Kansas City.

When Game 2 started Jacob DeGrom was in many minds to be the winning pitcher. Winning all three of his starts this postseason and trying to become the first Met to start a postseason 4-0. But with no offensive support and when the Royals hung up four runs in the fifth this one was done. With some insurance runs late in the game and Johnny Cueto pitching like the ace the traded for the Royals took a 2 games to none lead.

As the series shifts to the Big Apple the Royals are in a comfortable spot. This KC lineup made Matt Harvey and DeGrom look average. These power arms could not get by these Royals bats. Unlike the Cubs, the Royals don’t hit the ball out of the park. They grind out at bats and get on base. They thrive on hitting fastballs that are 95 mph and over, hitting just over.300. Noah Syndergaard is another power arm and is the last chance the Mets have to get back in this series

But it’s not just the Royals offense but the lack of the Mets. Leading up to the Fall Classic all the talk was about the Mets pitching and how great it was. But this Royals pitchers have shut down the Mets bats. Where is NLCS MVP Daniel Murphy? Where is the Mets best bat, Yoenis Cespedes. David Wright hasn’t shown up. The Mets, post the July 31st trade deadline had the one of the best offenses in the National League. So far they look like the offense from June and July when they were one of the worst.

The Mets have a good young team and the future looks bright, but the 2015 Royals are on a mission. A mission that began after last year’s crushing Game 7 Loss to the San Francisco Giants. The best team in the American League all year is just two wins away from winning it all, bringing the first World Series Championship to Kansas city since 1985.
